Seems a fitting thing to celebrate the end of 2013 with a big sale. We went a little wild in fact. The sale runs December 23rd thru 31st and it’s a doozy. We did our best to put everything on sale. Yes, everything (except our block of the month). Shop early, tell a friend, we’re going to have a lot of fun packing and shipping.
solids $6 per yard
designer collections $7 – $8 per yard
modern basics $9 per yard
precuts and bundles 25% off
Orders over $100 extra 5% off
(coupon code OVER100)
Orders over $200 extra 10% off + free shipping
(coupon code OVER200)
A goal for me in 2014 is to blog more. More projects, pictures, and let you know what is happening in the shop. This month we’ve unwrapped some really cute dots from Dear Stella. Emerald and Scarlet Confetti Dots shown here. 30 colors in all. Truly something that could sneak into any project. Imperfectly shaped dots because imperfect is better…it just is.
Along with the Dear Stella “Do It Yourself” collection. The clothespins are popular – unique colors that will easily blend into a lot of projects.
Lots more on the way this month – new Kaffe Fassett fabrics, Botanics by Carolyn Friedlander, Lizzy House Constellations from Andover. Still two more spots in the Park Bench Block of the Month.
I also have some shop news to share. We quietly converted the entire shop so our yardage is priced “per yard” instead of half yards. The minimum cut is 1/2 yard and you can order in 1/4 yard increments. We think this makes it so much easier to shop and hope you’ll like it too.
December 23rd – 31st is our end of year sale. Solids for $6, designer collections for $7 – $8, modern blenders for $9, precuts and bundles 25% off. Order $100+ for an extra 5% off. Order over $200 for extra 10% off + free shipping! See you Monday, okay?

Thought you all might be interested in a comparison of the Pure Organic Solids to the Kona Solids. While both are from Robert Kaufman, there are a few differences and many similarities.
First, the colors. Pure Organics come in 35 colors. Kona Solids come in
243 271 colors. With so many colors out there, you might find it handy to have your own color card of swatches. The range of colors available in Pure Organics is fantastic – a broad range of the most modern shades. Color-wise, there are not exact matches between the two lines.
Now, on to the fabric. I did my own test of the “hand”. Prior to washing the regular Kona solid feels a little softer. The Pure Organic looks more finely woven. The difference is very subtle and your own opinion might differ. After washing, the Pure Organic felt ever so slightly softer. Again, very little difference. In fact, I personally would not hesitate to mix the fabrics in the same quilt (just watch out for color variations).
The major differences are found in the specifications. Kona is made in Indonesia and weighs 4.35 oz per square yard. Pure Organics are made in Pakistan and weigh 4.66 oz per square yard. And finally the most important aspect, the Pure Organics are certified organic which means they adhere to a more stringent process. You can read about the greenStyle here. The Pure Organic Solids would be a wonderful addition to any project that is already including other organic cottons. It’s a feel-good addition to our stash and a message to our industry that we support organic cloth and dyes.
Pure Organic Red arrived today, just in time for Valentine’s Day projects. Pink, Bright Pink, and Cherry are also available to make your projects pop. The Pure Organic line is from Robert Kaufman. Similar to the Kaufman Kona Solids, Pure Organics are certified organic and come 35 of the most up to date shades.
On New Year’s Day I decided to do the Planet Patchwork mystery quilt. My husband Barry did not yet have a quilt of his own so I got work with some colors I thought he’d like. The Pure Organic Solids gave me plenty to work with. The fabrics are an organic collection in 35 colors from Robert Kaufman, similar to the Kona Cottons. I like how it turned out. I used silver for the background, grey, sky, denim, beige, steel and royal. I’ll post another picture once it’s quilted.
